Any photo, painting or drawing. You choose how many pixels wide it becomes.
Colors
Each color family becomes a light-to-dark ramp. Shadows lean cool and highlights lean warm, the way pixel artists pick their colors.
Touch-up
Use Draw, Erase, Fill and Pick above the picture to fix single pixels. Choose a color above to draw with it. Your edits stay while you change settings, as long as the grid size stays the same.
Removes the extra corner pixel when you draw a diagonal, the way pixel artists do.
Drawing

Main color keeps edges hard. Average is softer on photos.
Evens out the stair steps along edges, so curves grow and shrink gradually and straight edges step evenly, like hand-drawn ones.
Removes thin in-between shade stripes that follow edges, a giveaway of computer-made pixel art.
Fills one-pixel gaps in lines and removes doubled corner pixels on diagonals.
Light & outline
Shapes get a highlight on the side facing the light and a shadow on the far side.
